Bring in the Equiptment
Up

As the lab began to take form, the scales were placed in the specially constructed concrete forms.  The tolerances for the scales were very tight and the sections fit in perfectly.  The base for the Control House was finished and readied for its load.

The first round of trucks from Astec brought us the all important Control House, two asphalt tanks,  the additive tanks, and the plant heater.  These were immediately put into place and welded down.

Roger and Dave Litz immediately started on building a steel reinforced containment wall around the tank farm.  This way, all the liquids are safe and secure.
Hanes Holt Co. brought in the silos on their specially designed trucks.  The silos road on air support systems.
Once on site the crews and the Shamrock Millwright Construction Inc. cranes went to work setting the silos in place.  The cables were strategically placed and the silo tilted up.
Up and up it went without the slightest hesitation.  The first silo was quickly fitted into place.
The father and son team of Big Mike and Mike Thrift did the high wire work fitting the slat to the silo.  Working with harnesses tethering them to the stationary silo, they modified the head of the silo to fit the boot of the slat conveyor.  A 50 degree slope on the silo.  Perfect!
With the silo and slat in place, the next piece of equipment to go in is the drum.  Like a BIG erector set, the drum assembly was combined and placed online.
The Hauck burner mated perfectly with the drum.  This ultra high efficiency burner will provide us many years of heat.  The baghouse and mineral filler silo were located next to the drum with ease.  The totalizer and sampling device on the incline conveyor fit into place.
The front half of the cold feed bins were lifted of the delivery truck and placed along its final location.  Mike decided it would take one more crane to upright them and .....
the bins were set in place with precision.  The plates set in the concrete pad were perfectly located to anchor the bins securely in it final location.
After the first set of 4 bins, the next set was brought in and combined with the first.  With the bins in place, a mysterious shadow appeared and unhooked the cranes.
With the bins in place the collecting conveyor was set to bring the aggregate to the screen deck.  Everything fit together with nicely.

Roger and Dave place the last section of the containment wall.  They were glad to get that done.

The lab is taking shape.  The dormers are being built to the office on the second floor for plant manager Mike Thrift.
With all the major equipment in place, the job really gets interesting.  Everything needs to fit together perfectly and then the wiring starts.  Literally miles of wiring are connected together to make it all work.
